Actual bullion is a bit of a asset manager's favorite in the last while = versus the stuff in the ground but unless you are the proud possessor of some serious security its going to deliver a negative cash flow and in real terms is not going to deliver the goods - I would say inflation. As it happens I know a lot about antiques English silver and that is a minefield for the initiated let alone Joe Public. Coins? Same again. And here at least there is a real value add which well exceeds the metal value - but you have to be an expert to make real money.
Not the physical stuff - but SOUTH32 has the worlds biggest and, I believe, lowest cost Silver mine. If silver goes back to the $50 level it was at 4 years ago - SOUTH32 will make about R1,50 per R18 share on silver alone. AND you get one of the most interesting (and cheapest) large-scale diversified miners out there.
