Hi all, For the second time in as many years I had a "boiler room" phone call last week ... this time from a certain Mr Simon Chang of Vassal (?) stock brokers in China. He explained about “privileged confirmed information from two sourcesâ€ regarding a major move on NYSE listed gold and copper company Freeport McMoran (FCX), due to take over JNC (supposedly the largest copper miner in China) and subsequently to be snapped up itself by Billiton or Tinto. He tried very very hard to get my verbal approval to buy 1000 shares at $36.60 for payment by TT, and has been hounding me ever since. I recorded the second half of the conversation ... unfortunately I missed the juicy bits at the start. When this happened the previous time (then "Thomas Moore" brokers pushing ABB) I alerted the FSB and JSE who said mine was the complaint received. I also contacted a well-known financial journalist who said he did not want to create a panic for no good reason. According to the UK Guardian these activities cost UK investors 200 million pounds a year (www.guardian.co.uk/money/2011/jun/24/boiler-room-shares-scams). If it happens there it must happen here. I may be more exposed than most as I do business with China on a daily basis, but surely I cant be the only one ... any one else out there that had a similar experience?
