We’re continuing to do our bit to protect the environment with our latest project dedicated towards going green. We’ve installed solar panels on the roof of one of our buildings in Johannesburg, South Africa.
These panels are essential to the new solar hybrid energy efficient water-heating systems installed at our head office. We also have systems in place that will support the solar installation for days when the sunshine is not optimal. This new system will save nearly R1-million a year in energy costs.
This investment forms a small part of Standard Bank Group's long-term commitment to and introduction of cleaner energy solutions across the group. We have found that water heating, lighting and air-conditioning are the biggest energy consumers at Standard Bank, and with these new technologies, they will help reduce our need for fossil-fuel based energy and take pressure off the electricity grid.
We’re taking as many steps as possible in our buildings throughout the world to ensure we cut our footprint to as low as possible.
