World Aids Day, 1 December
Standard Bank Team
Super Contributor

On Wednesday we join the world in recognising World Aids Day. Knowing the facts, your rights, your status and how and where to get treatment are all main focuses around World Aids Day 2010.

An estimated 33.4-million people are living with HIV/ Aids worldwide but only 40% know that they are actually infected. Knowing your HIV status is the first step in managing the disease. The sooner you know your status, the better you can help protect yourself by seeking appropriate treatment and protecting your partners, family, community and colleagues from infection.

In South Africa, Standard Bank Group has been running an annual testing campaign whereby, for every staff member tested, a member in the community is afforded the same opportunity at no cost. This is our way of playing a great role in assisting the South African government to achieve its goal of testing 15-million people before June 2011.

Standard Bank Group is in a partnership with the Global Fund to fight HIV/Aids, malaria and TB in Africa. This video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVvjkEaBuEA) takes you on a trip from southern Africa to east and west Africa to see how this partnership works. Up to 3.5-million lives have been saved due to this private sector partnership.
