The world’s top chess players were in South Africa recently to take part in the South African Open Chess Festival.
The festival marked the return of South Africa’s first ever Grandmaster, Kenny Solomon, to competition on South African soil.
This is also his first tournament on home soil after officially receiving the title of Grandmaster earlier this year.
Grandmaster Solomon, a previous winner of the tournament, recorded an important final round win against International Master (IM) Rodwell Makoto which saw him place 4th overall. .
The 2015 South African Open Chess Championships came to an exciting end in Cape Town with a three way tie for first between the visiting Grandmasters. All three ended undefeated with scores of 9/11.
