www.idealcfds.com will give you a realtime update on alsi futures without registration. It is a bit silly that OST offers warrants based on the ALSI but you can't view the futures price. (Note that hte TOPI listed in OST is the cash price, not hte one used for pricing the warrant

Simon, looking at the live futures prices (ALSI it says) for sept09 on warrants.co.za the bid and ask prices are around 21900. Today the ALSI is trading at 24500 about. Do the futures tell of a 2600 point (over 10%) drop in the comming weeks? How do these futures relate to the actual market of today if the difference does not bode for a correction?

The future labelled "ALSI" actually refers to the TOP40. When the market is open, the future follows the TOP40 in lockstep. There is a small difference (due to the formula used to calculate the price: interest, etc) but this difference stays constant through the day.

That could make more sense but why not have the future correctly named then as sept09_TOPI or similar?

long sotry .. in the old days we had the ALSI and the ALSI40 .. then the JSE change ALSI40 to Top40, but SAFEX was an independent company and retained the name ALSI for the futures contract ..
