Gap to fill

Chartist, pardon my ignorance, but isn't the fact that both the DOW and the S&P were down over 1% last night a "market moving event" that makes this morning's gap on the Top40 a gap that is less likely to close?

I realise, of course, that the gap this morning is/was in fact closed, but doesn't the drop in the DOW and S&P as mentioned reduce the probability of it being closed?
