Will be surprised if this one goes anywhere. BS is buying these ancient low grade diggings that cost a fortune to run. Buffels is costing about $1320/oz to run and now he has bought Blyvoor where DRD could not make 5 & 6 shafts work and closed them relying only on low grade no.4 so 5&6 basically become expensive water pumping stations. Tau Lekoa is not easy but supplies bulk of production and Cons Murch is marginal and not a great money maker. Is he doing this to build cash to develop Lesego? If so strange way of doing it?

Citibank in the Asia Pacific region is now (today) recommending clients increase their investment portfolios holdings in gold by up to 5% and maybe even 10%, on the grounds of a US and Chinese slowdown. Warren Buffet seen as being like an antique gramophone - quaint, precious but no longer of any practical value.

saw bs interview he was very open and honest-he and his team are pursueing a high risk strategy and to quote him'this share is not for widows and orphans'-if his team get it right then they will make a pile for shareholders and it does rely on high gold price. He mentioned that the gold mining sector in sa was in it's sunset and he believed he could extract good value from a dying mine with his approach-note jobs will be lost and blood will be spilt.

the story here is that at a higher enough rand/gold price a lot of mines become viable .. BS hunting down those mines and assumign a high(er) rand/gold .. risks abound ..

funny though, the same comments (about Buffet being outdated) came round in the tech bubble, when he chose not to participate.

Add to the high risk the dilutive effect of issuing more shares to buy Blyvoor? Can gold stay above $1700 for the next 5 to 10 years while bs tries to get Lesego going in an environment where the prognosis in developed world is deflationary i.a.w not so great for high gold price. Seems to me, Wits and Pan-af offering better med/long term fundamentals
