You’ve probably heard about ‘going green’ or reducing your carbon footprint, but what does that actually mean and how do you know what your carbon footprint is? Well, it’s a simple calculation away.

With our carbon calculator, you can see the impact you are making on the environment. Follow the step to step process, start by putting in the relevant numbers in each field of the calculator, click calculate and see which of the going green categories you fall into:

Step 1: fill in the calculator and use these quick shortcut figures to help you along

Electricity- one hour’s use of each item
Computer and monitor: 2.69 kWh
DStv/decoders: 0.41 kWh
TV: 0.42 kWh
Fridge: 0.88 kWh
Freezer: 2.85 kWh
Kettle: 0.75 kWh
Toaster: 0.05 kWH
Washing Machine: 0.35 kWh
Microwave: 0.35 kWh
Iron: 0.03kWh
Phone chargers: 0.05 kWh
Lights: 1.68 kWh
Tumble dryer: 0.75 kWh

Water- one use of each item
Bath: 80 litres
Flushing the toilet: 8 litres
Showers: 35 Litres
Dishwasher: 25 litres

You are learning to live a greener life. You seem to be aware of the dangers of global warming and you have good intentions when it comes to protecting the environment.

Tip- buy local fruit and vegetables, or even try growing your own

High: 30+ CO2e

You are living a not so green life. Global warming exists and it’s a danger that will affect generations to come. Starting with simple things like switching of appliances when not in use or using less water can not only get you living a greener life but help you save a little money to.

Tip- recycle as much as possible
